The Garden Route is a glorious combination of contrasting vistas which follow along the Indian Ocean and are flanked inland by phenomenal mountain ranges. Knysna with its natural estuary and artist colony makes for a scenic place to hang your hat while you explore this lovely area. Do take time to walk in the nearby forests and enjoy the abundant bird life.
About an hour north of George is Oudtshoorn, the heart of ostrich farming worldwide. The nearby Cango Caves is another fascinating place to visit.
At Plettenberg Bay you can enjoy pristine beaches with good bathing in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean or you can opt to sail the seas to view dolphins and whales.
