laikipia camp and travel

Tarangire National Park is a truly special destination.  It is characterized by spectacular scenery, magnificent baobab trees, a high elephant population and a low tourist density..  The landscape reminds one of what it must have been like in prehistoric times given the ancient baobab trees dotting the gently rolling plains and seasonal swamps.

Tarangire National Park is best known for its huge number of elephants especially in the dry season (traditionally mid- June to November) when they can number up to 3,000.  During this time, the permanent waters of the Tarangire River also attract large numbers of plains game such as zebra, buffalo, eland and oryx.  Lions and leopard are present as well.  Even during the other months, elephant, giraffe, impala and bushbuck remain in the area albeit in lesser numbers.
