Joy’s Camp is built on the site of Joy Adamson’s tented home in Shaba
National Reserve. Situated in the eastern corner of the Samburu eco-system,
Shaba is a secluded idyll; an arid landscape dotted with lush springs
and rocky river gorges.
The 10 chic canvas tents are slightly raised off the ground with breathtaking
views of the surrounding hills. Each is uniquely decorated with Boran/Somali
designs, handmade glass and the vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic
tribes. The private verandas are ideal for in-camp game viewing or just
relaxing, reading and soaking up the truly wild environs offered by Shaba.
Although game is here, it is not abundant. This camp is more about
enjoying the beautiful, wild and volcanic landscape. We recommend a
visit here to enjoy the excellent hosting, seriously good food and relaxing
atmosphere.
Activities include day and night game drives, guided bush walks along
the Ewaso Nyiro River and cultural visits.
